As an IT specialist, I played a critical role in modernizing the DC Department of General Services (DGS) website, a project developed in collaboration with the DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO). The existing website was outdated and inaccessible, preventing stakeholders from efficiently accessing essential resources and services. My contributions were instrumental in ensuring a seamless migration to a fully responsive, user-friendly platform that meets modern digital accessibility standards.
Throughout the project, I actively participated in weekly meetings with key stakeholders, including representatives from OCTO, the Public Information Officer, and the Public Affairs Specialist. These meetings were essential for gathering requirements, addressing technical challenges, and aligning the website’s functionality with the agency’s communication strategy. By working closely with these teams, I ensured that the revamped site not only met technological needs but also effectively served its public-facing mission.
A major focus of my work was optimizing the site’s accessibility across all major devices and operating systems, including PC, Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. I worked to enhance cross-platform compatibility, ensuring that stakeholders could easily access critical resources regardless of their preferred device.
“Through her management of the DC Department of General Services’ website, the agency has seen continued growth and more engaging content that speaks to all of the agency’s unique stakeholders.”
– James Partlow, IV
Deputy Public Information Officer
Beyond the technical improvements, this project was a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing digital inclusivity, transparency, and usability. My role in this effort helped position DGS as a forward-thinking agency committed to leveraging modern technology for better stakeholder engagement and public service delivery.
